I have had several requests from bike commuters new to the area regarding how to ride safely from USF to Dowtown Tampa. If you have a suggestion, please post your preferred route.

This is the route that was followed for the Proclmation Ride on May 1.
-From USF take 40th Street (McKinley) -40th to Yukon (just south of Busch) -Turn right on Yukon and take it to Rowlett Park, curving to left at the park and taking a left at the bottom of the hill at the light. -Rowlett down to Sligh along the railroad tracks. -Right on Sligh to 22nd. -Left on 22nd. -Then right on Hanna and a left on Central -After crossing Hillsborough Ave, west (Wilder) then left on to Florida just before it becomes a one way -When it becomes a one-way the southbound lane on Florida will take us around to the right and then a left on Tampa.
I have a good "back streets" route to downtown from the Seminole Heights area:
after crossing Hillsborough at Nebraska, travel one block west to Taliaferro.
--south on Taliaferro to Osborne --take a right onto Osborne and follow it to Ola Ave. (crossing over Florida and Tampa Sts.) --turn left onto Osborne and follow it all the way to Doyle Carlton Loop(crossing over MLK, Columbus and arriving on the northwest edge of downtown, over behind the Stetson Law School building). -- from there, it is easy to access other downtown points (one way streets, brief bike lanes on Tampa and Polk Sts.)
From Sulphur Springs to downtown, I take Hanna over to Central through Seminole Heights then weave my way to Tampa St. to take advantage of the new bike lane!
