That is so cool. We have the greatest and dedicated bicycle commuters.

Is it easier being a female commuter in Tampa? I have had many bad experiences. @##! throw items at me as I ride and yell such great things as "get off the road and on the sidewalk." What does everyone else think?

If you want safe motorists on the roads, you must work to make things safe. 9 1/2 years ago, it was hideous in St. Petersburg. Contantly carrying and distributing educational fliers to bicyclists and motorists, writing letters to the editor, reporting bad drivers to the Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/forms/72190.pdf , patiently and kindly explaining the road laws and safety to motorists and bicyclists, these all made things change and more people started bicycling. If you want to bicycle, you've got to get out there and bicycle.

One time, a car passenger hit me with an item. I went back, picked it up without leaving my finger prints, and bicycled it to the police dept. They finger printed the item and said that car occupants throwing things at pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists is a felony. Yipes, stiff penalty! When I hear young people laughing about throwing things at bicyclists, I let them know bicyclists do take those things seriously, what the penalty is, and why it could cause serious injury. The young people just weren't thinking. Taking time to educate them does change things.
